On June 8th, the Clarke County Board of Education announced the school district's 5th annual Impact Awards for 2017. Watershed UGA was one of four organizations honored by the school system for their ongoing dedication to students this year.
Through Watershed UGA's partnership with Stroud Elementary, the Trail Creek watershed, which backs to school property, is now undergoing restoration and protection. With the school community, Watershed UGA has hosted events to educate the community on the importance of our local streams and their surrounding habitats. With the school's award winning problem solving team, a nature trail behind Stroud Elementary has been restored and plans for environmental education and outdoor classrooms prepared. Additionally, Watershed UGA helped the Stroud problem-solving team to win a Five-Star EPA grant to fund their journey and plans for the school's nature trail. As a result, the Stroud community continues to learn and be informed on the importance of our environment and continuing to educate our youth on nature and sustainability.
