On Saturday, October 17th, for the Homecoming football game against Missouri, a group of UGA student volunteers educated fans tailgating near Tanyard Creek about efforts to restore the creek. Volunteers encouraged fans to recycle their waste and to visit the Chew Crew, which had a tailgate of their own. Passersby could pet and feed the goats invasive plants, play a recycling game, and take part in food and giveaways. After this day of outreach and education, student volunteers gathered again at Tanyard to clean up the creek. For an hour, volunteers picked trash out of the creek and weighed a total of 58 pounds of trash -- less than the previous clean-up two weeks earlier! The success and enjoyment of this effort may be repeated again next year for additional sports events.
